Nikola Márová is the principal dancer of Czech National Ballet. An elegant dancer, whose brilliant technique and convincing acting skills have destined her for leading roles in the classical repertoire such as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, or Nikiya in La Bayadère, as well as dramatic heroines in lavish neoclassical titles, including Tatiana from the ballet Onegin, Juliet from John Cranko's ballet Romeo and Juliet, or Blanche DuBois from the dramatic ballet A Streetcar Named Desire choreographed by John Neumeier. She moves with the same confidence and grace in choreographies by modern and contemporary creators.
She was born in Prague, where she started taking ballet lessons at the age of six in the Preparatory school of the National Theatre in Prague. She graduated from Dance Conservatory in Prague and also completed two study internships in Dresden.
Since 1998, she has been a member of Czech National Ballet in Prague, was promoted as a soloist in 2001, and later on as a principal dancer in 2006. She is a two-time recipient of the Thalia Award for the role of Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and the Mother in The Rite of Spring by Glen Tetley, for which she also received the Opera Plus Award in 2018. From the Actors' Association, she has received a total of 12 nominations throughout her career. In 2003, she was awarded the Philip Morris Ballet Flower Award for the best Czech Dancer Award. For several consecutive years, she has been awarded by audiences as the most popular Czech dancer.
She has guest performed on many domestic and international ballet stages, e.g., Finnish National Ballet (Swan Lake), Taiwan (The Lady of the Camellias), Slovak National Theatre (Swan Lake), National Theatre Brno (Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote), and National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava (Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle).
She has participated in several international tours in the USA, Japan, Germany, Spain, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Malta, Russia, and China.
